Installing an EarthX battery

I switched my battery from the Odyssey PC-680 to an EarthX Etx680.

If you buy one there are 2 models of the 680 battery, Etx680 and Etc680c. The Etx680 is the one that fits the RV-12 battery box.

My  Odyssey was at its end and that helped me make the decision to change to the LiFePO4 technology. Several factors that also helped me decide were a big weight savings of 11 pounds, more cranking amps, and much longer cycle life.

The EarthX Etx680 fits into the -12 battery box perfectly. The biggest concern I had is that the battery terminal posts are on centerline instead of off to the side like the Odyssey. The Odyssey hold down bracket would run directly over the terminal posts and I didn’t feel comfortable with that arrangement. I 3D printed, a new hold down bracket that crosses the battery sideways. I made nut inserts that fit into the 3/4” holes on the original battery box and provide 10/32 threads to attach the bracket to. The nut insert pieces are aluminum washers made from .040 sheet aluminum, one .740” and one 1.3”, riveted together with a 10/32 nut plate. The assembled nut pieces are “JB weld” glued to the underside of center holes in the battery box cross braces.

The hold down is designed to use a 1/16 rubber between the hold down and the battery.

Contact me for the .stl file for the 3D printed cross brace.

I added the maintenance light wire to my Dynon Skyview, fairly straight forward and saved me adding the LED to my panel. This is the guide for that;

1) Connect the EarthX fault monitoring wire to any unused General Purpose input (type = A or C) on the SV-EMS-220. (Pins 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 20, 21, 22, 23, or 31), this is pins on the larger of the 2 connectors.

2) Configure the input in the EMS SETUP> SENSOR INPUT MAPPING. FUNCTION = CONTACT, SENSOR = CONTACT, NAME = EARTHX (select CUSTOM and enter a suitable name).

3) Configure the EARTHX CONTACT in EMS SETUP> SESNOR SETUP.
